What This Activity Teaches

I Spy Letters & Emojis combines phonics, spelling, and visual-word association in four engaging modes. Perfect for building literacy through pattern recognition and picture-word connections.

The Four Modes

🔤 Find Word Mode

"Find the word with OO" - Ben sees both the emoji AND the word, and must identify which word contains the letter pattern. This builds phonics awareness (digraphs, vowel teams) while providing visual support through emojis.

🎨 Find Emoji Mode

"Find the emoji for DOOR" - Reverse lookup! Ben sees the word and must find the matching emoji. This reinforces word recognition and visual-word associations.

🔗 Match Them Mode

"Which word matches? 🚪" - Pure spelling practice! Ben sees the emoji and must choose the correct word. This is spelling without typing - visual word recognition and meaning-making.

🎯 Pattern Hunt Mode (Advanced!)

"Find the picture with OO" - The hardest mode! Ben sees only emojis and must mentally identify which picture's word contains the pattern. This requires knowing the word for each emoji AND recognizing the pattern within it. Pure mental phonics without visual word support!

Why Emojis + Words Together

Pairing concrete objects (door, window, tree) with both their emoji representation AND written word creates a strong visual-verbal connection. Ben learns to associate the pattern (like OO in "door") with both the picture and the spelling.
