What This Activity Teaches

Speak & Spell is inspired by the classic Texas Instruments educational toy from 1978. It teaches phonics, spelling, letter recognition, and listening skills through multi-sensory learning (visual + auditory).

The Four Modes

🔤 Letters Mode

Introduces individual letters. Ben can see the letter and hear its name spoken aloud. This builds letter recognition and phonemic awareness.

📚 Words Mode

Shows simple words and speaks them. Ben learns sight words, word recognition, and can practice reading along with the spoken word.

😊 Emoji Words Mode

Pairs emojis with words - visual reinforcement! Ben sees the picture, the word, and hears it spoken. This multi-sensory approach strengthens word-meaning connections.

✍️ Spell It! Mode

The challenge mode! Ben hears a word (with an emoji clue) and must type it correctly. This is active spelling practice with immediate feedback.
